Regulation of Production, Labeling and Certification of Organic Products in Legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan
We are delighted to announce that zakon.kz published an article written by AEQUITAS Counsel Raushan Zhazykbayeva. The article is dedicated to analysis of the Kazakhstan legislation on production, labeling and certification of organic products against the international reference standards.
Consumer demand for organic products is growing steadily worldwide. Organic production is the system that avoids the use of most synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, contributes to preservation of the ecosystems, maintenance of biodiversity, and enhancement of soil fertility. The increasing demand for organic products has created new market opportunities for farmers around the world.
Currently, the organic production in Kazakhstan is export oriented. The concept of organic production is quite new for consumers, and the domestic market is not well developed. Therefore, there is a high risk of greenwashing, that is, green laundering.
The article (здесь нужно прикрепить ссылку на файл, который вы загрузите в публикации на английском языке и убрать эту фразу из текста перед публикацией) outlines the legal regulation gaps as applied to the raised issues and suggests recommendations on their improvement.
